Press release

"Stories of I" (part 1) inaugurates a series of exhibitions at Galerie Dix9, where works are centered on the quest for identity.

The confrontation of contemporary artists from different backgrounds and cultures is one of the peculiarities of this series, showing various approaches on the same question:self-portraits, masked games, fiction, self-introspection through the other, research of the other through the self, the image of the artist, the viewer, children, women. That is, many positions are expressed with  varied mediums: performance, video, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing or installation. As not only the purpose is to show works with a meaning, but also the way they mean.

Questioning the scope of clichés and conventions established in a specific environment, the selected works show a quest for identity in social and individual memory in the light of a personal story.

With Françoise Coutant, Anne Deguelle, Cui Xiuwen, Ghazel,
Mehdi-Georges Lahlou, Joel Person, Sophia Pompéry, Anila Rubiku,
Marion Tampon-Lajarriette, Yuan Yanwu
